New Plans for Blog

Usually when people say they have new plans for their blog, it's probably adding something to it or expanding, but not this time. I'm actually going to slow down and focus.

I've discovered there are certain things I thoroughly enjoy about blogging and things that are just not for me. For example, I LOVE teaching people about things: how to clean out and organize a fridge or how to make one chicken into 5 different meals, for example. But, I've discovered that I just don't want to host parties anymore. I love parties! However, I think I'm more of a party goer and not a party hoster. I've also discovered that I don't do well with deadlines. Yeah, most people get a little pressure and they work harder--me, I give up and don't finish.

So, I'm going to stop pressuring myself to produce "on time" and just start writing when I want to. Shouldn't that be how it is anyway? It's not like I'm going to a job and I'm certainly not making any money doing this, so why the pressure on myself. I really care more about the content than producing a certain number of posts a month. But, I haven't been acting that way. I've been acting like I'm reporting to some unseen boss, lol.

Well, that unseen boss out there is fired! I am my own boss, making and paying myself about 1 cent a month. I am officially laying off Stress from my blog and am hiring Freedom.

Okay, enough silliness. I'm just tired of feeling pressure to conform to this expectation I put on myself of what my blog "should" be. I may even experiment for a while to see what I really enjoy the most. And I'm most definitely going on some rabbit trails.

Oh, and PLEASE READERS: If you are lurking would you please just drop me a line or two? You are the reason I write. And my numbers are showing readers but I have no idea who you are.

  1. Please don't make your blog anything but pleasing to you! Keep doing what you enjoy... it blesses others! I pray that you are staying sane in the mist of you impending move!

    1. Thanks Dee Dee! I could use a lot of prayer right now, actually. Everyone whose seen our house loves it, but no one has made an offer yet and our new house will be finished in a matter of weeks! -Tabitha

  2. I think this is a good plan! I feel the same way. You know, with a master degree in Science of Education, I could get a real job and make money, but the point of me staying at home with my children and homeschool them goes beyond a paycheck. I do enjoy blogging because I get to share my creativity and my passion for cooking, other than that, I don't want to feel like I have to make a post, just to write something :)

    1. Exactly!! I think I read too many of those how-to-blog posts when I ran across them, and got to day dreaming about being a top blogger. But just to be quite honest, I would drown if I had that many comments to reply to, lol. I love my little blog and my handful of faithful readers! Now, I just need to dive in and enjoy writing instead of producing posts. -Tabitha

    1. Ah thanks, Linda! Glad to meet you. I may not give up the parties all together, but I don't know. I was just spending hours inviting people every week and it was bogging me down. I'm going to at least wait until after the move to try again. Then I can truly gage whether it was just the overwhelmed nature of the move that made everything else in life feel like this, or if I was really overwhelmed by the parties. -Tabitha

  5. Glad you're doing what you want with your blog Tabitha! I've been thinking of starting a link party but I know I'd spend so much time inviting people that it wouldn't be any fun. I really believe blogging should be something you enjoy and not a chore or job (unless you're really trying to make money from it). I look forward to reading your posts!

    1. I hope I didn't discourage you from doing a link party! It is a lot of work, but honestly I puttered. I think if you spend a lot of time to start with than it should eventually work primarily on its own. I just never got to that place. I may try again in the future, though, when I'm less stressed out. I do so look forward to going back to the basics and sorta starting over with how I think of my blog. No more pressure. No more stress. Just creative output. Thanks, Hilda! -Tabitha

  6. I just recently found your blog and subscribed. But I wholeheartedly agree with what you are doing. I think blogs have gone pretty far from what they were originally intended to be. We are trying to force ourselves to put out too much content. It becomes a job without pay with a lot of stress!

    1. It's nice to meet you, Jessica. You're so right! I'm not doing this in hopes of being fabulously rich or famous. I just love that I can write and that it's read. And that's my new focus. Writing great posts that readers will love and enjoy! -Tabitha
